Grade 8 Admission
ADMISSION PROCEDURE FOR GRADE 8
APPLICATION PERIOD FOR GRADE 8 LEARNERS:
5 August 2026 - 4 September 2026
The Grade 8 admission process is run entirely by the Department of Education and parents are required to apply directly through the Department of Education on www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.
Please monitor our website as well as social media (radio & TV) for updates from the Department of Education.
The Department of Education’s placement process is done using these six criteria:
- Option 1 – Home address within school feeder zone: The applicant learner’s place of residence is closest to the school within the feeder zone
- Option 2 – Sibling / Previous School. NOTE: Previous School option is not available to Grade 1 applicants.: the applicant learner has a sibling attending the school
- NOTE: Previous School option is not available to Grade 1 applicants
- Option 3 - Work address within school feeder zone: the place of employment of at least one of the applicant learner’s parents is within the feeder zone of the school.
- Option 4 –Home address Within 30 kms of the school: the applicant learner’s place of residence is within a 30 kms radius of the school; or
- Option 5 -Home address Beyond 30 kms from the school: the applicant learner’s place of residence is beyond a 30 kms radius of the school
- Option 6 - School of Specialisation: the applicant should write a placement test
Placements are done automatically by the GDE online system. Everyone on List 1 “Living within school’s feeder zone” is placed first before moving on to any other lists.

Required Documents
Once you have filled in all the required information on the GDE online system, you will be required to upload the following documents to the GDE online system. This must be done in order for the application to be finalised correctly on their system.
Failure to upload the below documents will influence your application.
Please save these documents separately to your PC before you start the process.
- Certified copy of unabridged birth certificate
- Certified copy of latest school report
- Certified copy of parent ID (The parent who is applying)
- Letter of employment - Letter from the employer on the official letterhead (if applying based on working in feeder zone)
- Proof of Address:
For Homeowners:
Municipal account not older than 3 months in the name of the applicant parent bearing the full residential address
Tenants / renters: Applicants who are not home owners, ALL documents are listed below:
- Municipal account not older than 3 months in the name of the landlord (homeowner) bearing the full physical residential address
- Valid / Current lease agreement signed by the landlord and the lessee (tenant), bearing the full physical residential address and details of the lessee and the lease agreement including the timeframe of the lease agreement.
- Rental Payment receipt with full physical residential (home) address and details of the lessee (tenant) not older than 3 months
- Statement of any account in the name of the applicant parent bearing the full physical residential addres
Once you have submitted your application, we will be able to access the information in order to do verifications.
NB: No manual applications at the school. Only online applications via the GDE Admissions website will be considered.
Placement
NB: Admission to the school is strictly according to the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) regulations.
The Department of Education will communicate with you via SMS. Please ensure you use the correct cell number. Please check your SMS message regularly. You are also welcome to log on to the GDE online system where you applied to view the status online.
The status will remain “Application being processed” until placement is finalised.
Once the Department of Education releases placements offers, you will receive an SMS telling you to please confirm. You will then be required to log onto the GDE online system where you applied and click “Accept” next to the school of your choice.
