Pretoria Technical High School originated from the Technical College in Church Street in 1904. The school later moved to Central Pretoria after which it finally found its home at the current premises in Park Street, Arcadia.

Since 1993 the school has maintained a pass rate well over the Gauteng Department of Education average and in 2020 the school was rated the Top Technical High School.

As of 2024, the school has been a cornerstone in Pretoria education for 120 years.
